Guidelines for Professors

We welcome you and your students to the Writing Center. We are located on the second floor of the LARC, room 221.

Writing Center hours (including weekend and evening hours) vary by semester, but we are typically open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The Writing Center phone number is (636) 949-4870 and the email address is writingcenter@lindenwood.edu.

The Writing Center has a number of Canvas modules available for you to import into your shells, providing valuable information for you and your students on the following subjects: formatting styles (Chicago, APA, MLA, and AMA), academic integrity and plagiarism, Microsoft Word's Immersive Reader mode, and creative writing publishing guides.

If you need assistance importing any of our modules to your shell, please refer to the following guide: Help Importing Canvas Modules

We are happy to give tours of the Writing Center to your classes, and we can send a Consultant to your class to present about the Writing Center or about writing.

If you would like a tour or request a Consultant to visit your class, please contact Susan Edele.

If you choose to require that your class meets with a Writing Consultant, please follow the procedure listed below.

  1. Please send a copy of your roster to Susan Edele one week prior to the required visit time frame. The roster is posted at the front desk. Students sign in when they arrive, and the Consultants initial the roster after the session is completed.
  2. Please send a copy of the assignment and a rubric. This helps the Writing Consultants work with your students to complete the assignment as directed.
  3. Please remind your students to make appointments in order to guarantee time with a consultant. Walk-ins are helped on a first-come first-serve basis.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Writing Consultants are students who are trained to work as Writing Consultants. They are not English professors.
  • Typically, Writing Consultants do not work with essays or assignments that have already been graded. If you want a student to revise a paper that you have graded, please send an email to Susan Edele.
  • Students who visit the Writing Center will not have perfect papers. Sometimes, the Consultants miss grammar errors, and they are not required to find and “fix” every single error, per our guidelines. Sometimes, students do not incorporate the recommended changes into their papers.

Writing Consultants cannot sign off on students' papers. We can, however, give your students a “receipt” to turn in as proof of consultation.
