The 51¸£ÀûÉç Student Veteran Organization and Veteran Affairs Office partnered in a recent care package drive. Through this effort, 85 overseas troops will receive care packages thanks to the generosity of the Lindenwood community.
Students, staff, and faculty donated 2,683 items, weighing 540 pounds. Some of the donated items include nonperishable foods, toiletries, hygiene materials, coffee, and playing cards. These have been mailed to the five units deployed around the globe. Assistant Director, Military Strategy and Student Experience, DeWitt White says this is the first drive of its kind from the organizations which he hopes to become an annual event, serving troops during the holiday season. White praises the work of Student Veteran Organization President Emeril Furr, the support of the Staff and Faculty Council, and the Veteran Affairs office for making the drive possible.
Speaking on the care packages, Furr said, "I am truly honored to have had the opportunity to lead the first Care Packages for Troops program at Lindenwood. This initiative has meant a great deal to me, and it has been inspiring to witness the incredible teamwork and collaboration between various organizations and employees. A heartfelt thank you goes out to everyone who contributed. The impact of these care packages will be profound, as they will boost morale and bring a sense of holiday spirit to the men and women of our armed forces serving overseas."
